Lao Tzu was a Chinese philosopher around 604 BC and came up with this quote that has been passed down through the years. Well technically our journey started yesterday as I went over to Birmingham to pick up Sophie. Today we’re going up to Lincoln to see my sons then the youngest is driving us to Heathrow for flight to Beijing, the hometown of Lao Tzu although I suspect the airport will have changed a bit since his time.
It’s impossible to convey in words how much this trip means to us both, the apprehension, excitement and anticipation we feel about emerging into such a beautiful place and immersing ourselves in a culture, cuisine and environment so different to our own. As I look out at a classic English scene of golden stone houses under slate roofs and a blue sky I can’t imagine being in the far east 36 hours from now. We’ll keep you updated and join us on Facebook live at 9pm tonight for a QandA session.
Just as every journey starts with a single step so it needs coffee and a good breakfast too. Sophie did the honours this morning and very nice it was too. Onwards to Lincoln.
